upon arrival we were upgraded in a very nice suite. we had to leave early for our flight back home and the Hotel offered a packed lunch; the roof terrace is just beautiful und the whole staff extremely friendly. we had a really pleasant stay
Charming hotel with old furniture and strong coffee features
Delicious food and lovely rooftop, historical building with lots of character.
Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast on the rooftop was delicious and lovely. Staff let us keep our luggage there when we took off to spend a few days at the beach. Would stay here again.
The historical house, which is included in the city sightseeing route, is really interesting. The staff is friendly. Great breakfast on the roof. It is safe, there is a watchman on duty in the evenings and at night, who lets guests in and out. It is possible to buy Tanzanian coffee, and it is a good opportunity to do so in the city, because in the remote villages there are no beans or ground coffee, except instant coffee. It is very good that there is an opportunity to refill drinking water. There was warm water and electricity all the time.
I enjoyed everything from the architecture of the old building to the roasting coffee show... delightful time
The staff were so friendly and helpful. Their joy was infectious and created a wonderful vibe throughout the place. The rooms themselves were beautifully decorated with small thoughtful touches. The room had A/C and was comfortable at night. It can be a bit loud as people pass in the alleys, but thatll occur no matter where you stay because everything is so close together. The breakfast was delicious and had a good variety of options. It was nice guests could use the rooftop even after cafe hours as its cooler up there. I particularly enjoyed the ability to fill up water easily before heading out too. They also booked my taxi and tour - both were great!
you can choose welcome drinks from their cafe menu, very tasty all things inside are cute stuffs are very friendly and helpful, even after checking out they kept our things safely for our sightseeing stonetown breakfast is very nice, coffee is super good nice ac
We booked a night at the Coffee House as my wife, is the great grandchild of Sir Tharia Topan who owned a number of properties on this road which, prior to the Revolution of 1964 was named after him. It certainly is a blast from the past with little modern fixtures and fittings from the mid 1850's onward and it is only suitable for those who are fit, to deal with uneven stone stairs to the upper bedrooms as there are no elevators available. The streets are typical Stone Town in which a taxi can rarely get within 3 minutes from the property due to very narrow lanes, never the less it was an experience to spend a night in the property and to visit the nearby Dispensary which Sir Tharia was instrumental in getting construction underway over a hundred and fifty years ago and which has now been refurbished by the Aga Khans organization.
Full of character, great staff
Fantastic place, even exceeded by the really nice staff
Attentive staff, Richard was an amazing host. The ambience was great and the aroma of coffeee was magical. Thank you for having me.
All of the staff were friendly, especially the woman who served breakfast. The coffee and juice were delicious and I enjoyed the homemade granola and yogurt. The weather was exceptionally hot and humid when I was there, but the ceiling fans and A/C worked well. The rooftop was very nice and the temperature seemed cooler there because you could feel a good breeze.
Loved our stay here and wished we stayed longer! Ali and the team were so lovely and accommodating with everything! Needless to say this is the best coffee we had in Zanzibar! My partner is also still raving about the breakfast!! Best place to stay if you have any dietary requirements as well. There are so many vegan options on the cafe menu and soya milk for coffee as well. Thank you so much for everything team
The staff are super friendly, make you feel right at home. Beautiful building with so much history behind it, great coffee and breakfast. The single room was comfortable and perfect for a solo traveller. Great views from the terrace and central location for exploring Stone Town.
Zanzibar Coffee House is an amazing old palazzo in the heart of Stone Town. It has pedestrian access only, although you risk getting run down by motorbikes in the ancient narrow streets. Zanzibar Coffee House is part cafe-part hotel. It is quite expensive (coffee is UK prices) and not plush, but full of character. Despite the prices, don't expect western standards. If it's luxury you're looking for, this isn't for you. However if you want to enjoy an incredible historic environment, this is a great experience.
Absolutely everything! Stunning spacious room with comfy bed, hot water, a safe, air con, fans, lovely extras in the bathroom eg coffee soap and loofahs, good towels, big bottles of water each day, turn down service - amazing coffee of course, generous breakfast, stunning rooftop fir guests only before 10 and after about 3.., very kind staff
Building is incredibly beautiful, staff is so kind and give time and all their efforts to hear and fill your needs the best way possible. Thank you Philippina and others for everything.
The best parts of this place are the people and the coffee! They were so warm and welcoming, and so very helpful. It was a comfortable place to stay and central to all that Stone Town has to offer. We loved the charm and character of this Coffee House and the rooftop terrace was a favorite as well.
Coffee was great, breakfast was great!
What a lovely place. My flight was delayed but a 2am check in was not a problem. How much history is in that place! Room was beautiful and full of character, and the staff were exceptional. I think having breakfast on the roof terrace was amazing and it was delicious.
The place is just amazing. Authenticity
Breakfast!!! The view must be nice when there is no renovation all around (soon over hopefully) Would have stayed more but the accomodation I wanted was already booked.
Beautiful house in the heart of Stone Town with a beautiful roof terrace. Clean comfortable room. Very friendly staff. You are greeted with a drink from the cafe upon arrival
I did not make it to the hotel because I had visa issue. Like just few minutes after making my reservation, I asked the hotel if they can wait on my payment and they completely refused. Other hotels was way more comprehensive and offer me a credit to use within one year so I dont lost the money. I was coming for the Sauti festival and for sure they could have find someone to occupy the room as the demand was high.
